Consequent on re-organisation of the states in 1956, a number of state Government servants coming from integrating area were provided with residential accommodation in Rajajinagar. These Government Servants who thus became residents of Rajajinagar faced many shortcomings, one of which was in sufficient of school facilities and exploitation of parents in the name of education. Based of the principle that "Self help is the best help", some of these government servants joined together and decided to form a society with an object of opening a school to impart good and purposeful education to children and to avoid exploitation of parents. Pursuant to this decision, a society was registered under S77/67-68 under the Karnataka societies registration act, 1960 under the name of "Parents Education Society". The name of the society was subsequently changed as "Rajajinagar Education Society". Each member of the Society contributed Rs.250/- to constitute the initial fund.

The Society was formally inaugurated by the then Chief Minister of the State Sri S. Nijalingappa in a function held on 19th November 1967 under the Chairmanship of Sri Justice T. K. Tukol, who was the then Vice-Chancellor of the Bangalore University.

Since a few Members were attending a Study Circle where Sri Aurobindo's literature were read and discussed, the name of the School was given as Sri Aurobindo Vidya Mandir. Thus a humble beginning was made by opening the school in June 1969 with Lower Kindergarten and First standard class with 30 children and 3 Teachers.

Steady progress was made by opening higher standards every year and the school reached the SSLC level in 1980. The students' strength steadily increased from 30 in 1969 to the present strength of 3150 in the various units viz., Nursery, Lower Primary, Higher Primary, High School and College. Correspondingly, the strength of Teaching and Non-teaching staff has increased from 3 in 1969 to 100.

With steady increase in the number of High Schools in Rajajinagar extension, difficulty came to be experienced by our students passing SSLC in securing seats for the Pre-University Courses. In order to mitigate the hardship at least partly, the Society decided to open Pre-University Courses in Science and Commerce for Girls from the academic year 1991-92. Later the Society also started First Grade Degree College in Science and Commerce stream. The latest feather in the cap of the Society is the one more School branch at Kamalanagar, Bangalore.
